"How are you going to make money?" a common question when I tell people about my BeeHive studio idea. I don't really have a good answer except "It's more of a networking opportunity..." But some of my regular bees, and a few random visitors as well, have suggested I have a "tip jar" so people can toss in some contribution for using my studio, materials and gray matter.
I actually did some google research on tip jars and was underwhelmed at the options available. So I created my own...
I found a charity-type box at Staples and then customized it with Legos, of course. I think it has a nice serene feel to it, don't you? Very GREEN. (Subliminal thought: "Green. Think GREEN.")
Ah, a calm, lovely, pond-side park...
You have to look a little closer to see the "story"...
And this guy here is IN the tip box! I wonder where he got that bone... ?
Anyway, come see the amazing tip jar in person! And put some green stuff in it. (No, Lilah, not boogers!? eeew.)
I love the Lego scene. Your sign is great.
ReplyDeleteThat is the cutest tip jar I have ever seen!
ReplyDeletePretty soon you'll be getting commissions on tip jars!
Let us know if people drop a little in there!
Your tip box is brilliant, Sandy! I love the colorful characters you added to your blog header too. If I could come work in the BeeHive studio, I'd be there in a heartbeat. Everything I know about Zentangles, I've learned from the first 4 books you wrote. I can't imagine how much better I would be if I actually worked with you in person.
ReplyDeleteHow soon can you get here? ;-)
DeletePoor Lilah, one day her date will find all of this online.....your post about the Christmas pagent was hysterical. Are you sure you're not a stand up comedian disguised as an artist, mom, etc. I wish the other day when I bought the notebooks on etsy I had requested an Lilah originals bean so one day when she's famous I could get rich! Keep up the posts, I love em....
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize I was in disguise! ;-) And, yes, Lilah's Beans are already getting famous online. Be sure to ask when you place your next order - she'll be thrilled to draw something for you. She does Lilah Bean clinics every other Friday at The BeeHive from 3-4:30. You know, just in case you happen to be in the area at the time.
DeleteSandy...what I've always heard about tip jars is to "help" people feel more generous in their giving....is to have some bills already in the jar every day when your shop is open. It may give people more incentive to drop some green into your green enhanced tip jar!!!
ReplyDeleteOh THOSE kinds of "bills"?! I guess I can tell Bill that he doesn't need to stand around inside the box anymore begging for bones... I think he was actually enjoying himself.
DeleteSeriously though - some folks took pity on the empty box last night and put in some money. My mom snitched five bucks for pizza though. I'll have to send Bill after her to collect!
"Fetch, Bill!!"
